Scholarly publishing
SiteFusion already delivers fully implemented solutions for scholarly publishing. Structured editing with Fonto, collaboration through Fonto Review, JATS XML content, PDF output and digital exports work together in one connected process. Scholarly publishers, learned societies and editorial teams can coordinate content, quality and publication on a shared platform.
The Journal Article Tag Suite (JATS) describes scholarly articles in XML. Titles, abstracts and contributor details are structured alongside sections, figures, tables and references. Content and meaning remain independent of layout. A shared data foundation supports processing for different publication channels and exchange with other systems.
Authors and editors work on articles in an interface aligned with the JATS structure, without needing XML expertise for editorial work. SiteFusion connects each document with its assets, metadata and production tasks. The JATS profile and editorial rules are aligned with your journals and article types.
With Fonto Review, contributors comment directly on content, and editors can address and resolve feedback in Fonto Editor. SiteFusion embeds correction rounds and approvals in role-based workflows. Scientific assessment, such as peer review in an existing submission system, is connected through project-specific responsibilities and handovers.
CONNECTED PRODUCTION
Ingest manuscripts, assets and metadata from the agreed source and structure them in JATS.
Edit content with Fonto and coordinate corrections through Fonto Review.
Connect XML validation, editorial checks and approvals in a BPMN workflow.
Produce PDFs from approved articles and export content for digital channels.
Approved JATS content is used to generate PDFs through defined typesetting rules and templates. Digital exports deliver content and metadata to publishing platforms and other connected channels. Editorial changes feed back into the same content source. Layouts, export profiles and destination requirements are defined during implementation.
Contributors, affiliations, abstracts and keywords are integral to scholarly articles. Persistent identifiers such as DOI and ORCID, together with funding and licence information, also matter. The project defines which details are maintained, checked and delivered to destination systems, supporting reliable attribution, citation and digital discovery.
Media-neutral XML supports both open-access and subscription publications. Repositories, archives and publishing platforms require complete assets and metadata alongside the appropriate JATS profile and delivery rules. SiteFusion brings these requirements together in the agreed production and export process.
